Frequently Asked Questions
What will it feel like to be in Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a very deeply relaxed state. It is very similar to those moments just before you fall asleep when you are neither really asleep or awake. Most people really enjoy the Hypnotic state and once they have experienced it, really look forward to experiencing it again. The deeply relaxed state that you are in is actually similar to the state we all regularly go in daily when we are daydreaming or totally focused on a task when our conscious mind switches off. It is a totally safe, comfortable and relaxing experience. Once in this pleasant state we have access to the unconscious mind which is a powerful source of us all and capable of great change. In Hypnotherapy we use this state to great effect.
Can anyone be Hypnotised?
Yes, I really believe that most people who want to be Hypnotised can be. As Hypnosis means the Hypnotherapist and Client working very closely together, it is necessary for a good level of trust and rapport between the Hypnotherapist and the Client to be in place. For this reason I like to offer my potential clients a free half hour consultation to put them at ease and ensure they feel comfortable with me as their Therapist.
What are your qualifications?
I trained with the Yorkshire Hypnotherapy Training who are accredited with General Hypnotherapy Standards Council and the British Institute for Hypnotherapy and NLP. In addition I studied and passed the ‘Smoking Cessation’ with the College of Integrated Therapies. I am also a qualified and experienced Hypnobirthing Teacher having trained with both the UK Marie Mongan Hypnobirthing Institute and the Katharine Graves Hypnobirthing Association of which I am an Accredited Teacher. As a practicing Hypnotherapist I am constantly and professionally supervised. In addition to this I also hold a certificate in Counselling and am qualified in Reiki II. In addition to this and I believe of equal importance is I have been a client of Hypnotherapy myself several times. I birthed my two sons using the power of Hypnosis and have recently got rid of a lifelong phobia of birds.
How many sessions will I need?
Hypnotherapy is one of the fastest and most effective therapies in existence which is why it is so popular. However it is important to understand that no cure is immediate (with the exception of Smoking in which we often see very fast results). I recognise that each and every client of mine is totally unique and has different hopes, fears and belief systems. This makes it difficult to give a definite and precise answer without meeting you and getting to know you in more detail. However as a guideline I would say between 3 and 6 sessions. Smoking Cessation is the exception to this as many Smokers needing only 1-2 sessions (Please see my Smoking Cessation section).
What about cost?
I am keen that Hypnotherapy should be available to as many people who want it as possible, which is why I keep my prices as reasonable as possible. I have my own quiet, discreet, purpose built treatment room overlooking beautiful and tranquil fields with local horses from which I practice. This is based on the outskirts of Norton in Malton. This enables me to keep my prices as competitive as possible. In addition I also practice from ‘The Clinic’ in Malton occasionally.
What about loss of control?
If you haven’t yet experienced Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy it is more than natural to have some slight reservations over what to expect. As outlined earlier it is very important there is trust and rapport between you and me and please be totally reassured it is a total myth that anyone would ever do anything under Hypnosis that is against their principles or core beliefs. You will be totally and fully aware at all times and you can rest assured that your unconscious mind would never allow you to do anything that you were not happy with. I am professional and work to the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council Code of Ethics, please rest assurred that you are in safe and experienced hands.
Why should I use you as my Hypnotherapist?
As my family and friends will testify, I am passionate about Hypnotherapy and the potential it offers to people to overcome situations and difficulties they did not previously think they could, more easily than they ever thought possible. I have seen this time and time again in my work as a Hypnotherapist and Hypnobirthing Teacher. I offer a friendly, caring and professional service treating all my clients as the unique and very special people that they are. I am aware that some people like to meet their Therapist face to face first which is why I offer a free half hour consultation either face to face or by telephone. If you are then comfortable to proceed this can be the precursor to your first session. If not, it is fine to leave it there as mutual rapport is very important. I look at these consultations as also a way to inform more people about Hypnotherapy.
